As most of you know, last Saturday, March 11, the DORC AGM was held. Normally, these meetings are used to discuss the last season; the status of the track and the land, our current member base, and what worked and didn’t work; the club’s financial position, and to generate ideas and discussion with the club members about the year ( years hopefully) ahead.

This year’s AGM was made even more important due to the election of a new board of executives. The positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer have been successfully voted on and filled, along with the positions of several of the committee heads.

Before formally announcing the new board members, I’d like to extend great thanks to the original executive. Without their drive, the Durham Off-road Radio control Club would not exist. They originally lobbied the town of Ajax for land for us to fully enjoy our hobby; formally starting the club in the process (the full story can be found here http://durhamrc.com/showthread.php?4...ack-Ajax/page9).

When that deal fell through, they were able to secure the land where we now host the club in Bowmanville. From there, they were able to grow the club to where we sit now, with a large, dedicated community of members, a 1/8 off-road track that continues to challenge and evolve each year, and a full blown, member built, crawler course that continues to astound me when I see what these rigs can do.

So to Dave Hafizi, Mike Kalenberg, Kevin Adams, and everyone else who helped launch this undertaking, I say again, thank you. I believe a round of applause is in order.

On to the new guys:

Taking over the position of President is Kevin (kevchev) Henebery

His years of experience with the snowmobile club, not to mention getting the crawler course going full steam, make him a valuable and knowledgeable addition to the board and the club.

Accepted for the position of Vice-President is Jordan (phys_wrx) Trolley

His dedication to the grounds maintenance and track construction means he knows first-hand what needs to done, and what can be done to keep our track and facilities in top shape.

In the position of Treasurer, we have Tim (Timmay) Robinson

Tim will be working closely with our accountant, Dave Dwyer, to keep all of the club’s finances in order.

Lastly, in the position of Secretary, we have yours truly, Rory (BigR) MacGregor

I’ll be handling communications between the club, its members, the town, and other parties. Not only can I race and paint, I can type at 40 WPM and do spreadsheets while I sleep. (in Office 2007, 2010 is a different story)

The new executive is already hard at work to get this year’s season started. Discussion has begun on member registration and payment, and a tentative race schedule is in the works. A best five of six series is planned along with a member’s day. Additional events are also being discussed.

The new executive would like to thank the club members for giving us the chance to help further grow this club and bring it closer to the best it can be in 2012 and beyond. More announcements regarding committees, the track prep, and more will be coming in the following weeks, and I’ll be doing my best to keep the club informed of what’s going on.

For many of our loyal members who may remember all the painstaking steps that were taken to establish the corporation back in fall of 2008. Shortly after, we looked into building a track in spring of 2009. During that process we had tons of contributions both financially and physically from several of the people who are still with us today. We can’t thank you all enough for your efforts to help make our club where it is today.

Our club had undergone through some changes at the board level since it got established. These changes included addition of Kevin as our treasurer and Jeff as our race director.
Since the end of 2011 RC season, we have had several discussions on how we would like to see our club grow. We all came to the conclusion that a fresh leadership of the board is needed to take the club to the next level. We know for a fact, several of our members throughout the years have had great ideas and inputs on the operation of the club. We did incorporate many of those ideas to help run the club.

At the same time, many of the members felt they are able to have much better impact if they were involved directly in the leadership of the corporation. This is a great opportunity for those members to step forward and take over the leadership of the club.
We are not quite certain on how we are going about the selection of our replacements. We are however certain the first step is get the word out and then hold a meeting with-in the next few weeks. This will be the opportunity for those who are interested to come forward.

Meanwhile it is business as usual at our club. For the time being, we still have plans to open the gates for the 2012 RC season as soon as the weather permitting sometime in spring. We will renew the insurance and the lease in anticipation of the track opening.
At this stage, we have no plans to continue with the same point series race format, however we are hoping the new board leaders can come up with ideas for the 2012 race season. At a minimum we will expect to see some club racing at the track as well as a member’s day sometime in summer.

Please stay tuned as we schedule our annual club meeting for this year and feel free to provide us with any feedback you may have.

We are pleased to share the latest news regarding the DORC Bowmanville track. We have been closely monitoring the sale of the land in order to determine if we can potentially come up with some sort of agreement with the new land owner.

We have just learnt the people involved could not reach an accord and sale of the land has fell through. Jim's intent is to allow us to continue with the lease of the land during the 2012 RC season.

We are looking forward to a great season in 2012 with hopes that you will all join us again. We would also like to thank all of you who were actively involved to help look for a new place to call home.

Please keep in mind, this land will still be for sale and could be sold at any time. We will do our best to keep everyone informed as we have done in the past.

It’s with great regret to announce the permanent closure of the Bowmanville track as of November 1st, 2011.
For those who are not aware of the history of the land, back in early 2009 when the club was desperately looking for a place to build the track, and after getting rejected by town of Ajax and the Ajax flying club, Jim at Bedwell movers was able to offer the use of his vacant land in Bowmanville. Although we were aware that this land was for sale, we could not pass on the opportunity to finally establish our track.
Bowmanville track-build was finally completed in June 2009. Since then we were able to provide the Durham RC community with a unique opportunity to take advantage of a local track. We held point series races for three seasons and served several hundred members.
We are lucky enough to be able to complete our 2011 point series before the ownership of the land is handed over. We would however like to minimize the usage of the track after the October 15th race day.
Please note we haven’t given up and are actively pursuing other land opportunities with-in the region.
We are also looking for volunteers to assist us with the track tear down and clean up after October 15th.
Many thanks to all those members who supported us throughout the last few years and those who helped us establish this club.

Just to advise everyone, the schedule date for the final race (#6) has been changed from October 8th to 15th with rain day set for the 16th.

2nd Class - $10

Non-Members:

There will be a minimum of 2 qualifiers @ 7 minutes each. Mains are typically 10 minutes for electrics, A main nitros are 20, B mains are 10 or 15, finial decisions will be made at the direction of the race director on the day of the race

We at Durham Offroad RC would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience till we get the kinks out of the track, We have now officially opened the track.

We also wanted to remind everyone of their responsibility to operate in a safe manner while at the track. Please keep the following basic rules in mind:

The membership tags must be worn at all time, you may be asked to leave the premises if you can not present a proof of membership.
The last person leaving the track must always lock the main gates.
If anyone is caught running their RC outside the track or test and tune area, will be asked to leave the premises.
DO NOT run your RC on the track after a major rainstorm. You will damage the track.
Under no circumstances the gate combination can be shared with any non club members.
We no longer have a garbage pick up service, so please dispose of your own trash.

I hope you will all have yourself a safe and prosperous RC season.

We are pleased to announce our 2011 membership prices.
We decided not to increase our membership prices this year, also provided some additional perk for those with multiple kids in their household.
Our prices for this year membership is as per the following:

-Single adult $80 each
-Two, up to a maximum of four adults living in the same household $75 each
-Single adult and 1 or more kids (9-15) living in the same household $80 for the adult and $65 for all the kids
-Two adults and 1 or more kids in the same household, $75 for each adult and $65 for all the kids

All kids under 16 years old will need to be accompanied by an adult member at all times while at the track.

The track membership will entitle you to use the track every day from 10 AM till 9:00 PM, Monday through Sunday during the RC season which may run from May till November. The gate will be locked and each member will be given the code and be expected to lock the gate, if they are last one at the track.
Also a special discount will be applied to members for registering for the main Race events (prices TBA). We will be incorporating either a lanyard or wrist ban policy, to be worn AT ALL TIMES while at the track.

Registration can be done at Xtreme RC located at 250 Bayly Street West Unit 13b in Ajax 905-239-5544. They will be collecting the membership fees and contact information. Please note we can only accept cash payments or a personal cheque payable to Durham Offroad RC Club during the registration. Membership cards will be sent to your address or can be picked up at a later date.

Guest Pass

Each D.O.R.C. member may bring a guest once for $10, if that guest wants to return then he/she must buy a membership. The member can bring more than one guest, but the same rule of one visit per guest still applies. No guest passes are required on race days.
