Its been a while since we have provided any update on the status of the track. As some of you may have been aware, the original land promised by town of Ajax was located on Westney, just south of Bayly. After our last meeting with town of Ajax, we were informed that piece of land did not meet the provincial zoning regulation meeting this type of establishment. Also they mentioned they are looking into the option of providing the club with another piece of land towards north of Ajax. Since we truly need this track and with warmer season approaching real fast, we could not afford to wait much longer. Since that meeting, two other opportunities were presented to the club by other sources than the town of Ajax. We are currently exploring both options and hoping to make our decision by no later than the first week in May. So for those who patiently waited to have the track opened, its almost time. If all goes well, you will be racing on the new track by no later than early June. We will be collecting new members as soon as we finalize the land details with it's owner and start digging. |

I just wanted to give everyone an update on the status of the Ajax track. We have completed our first batch of a very successful fundraising for the track. Many thanks to people who organized and participated. Phase 2 consists of an internal town of Ajax meeting with the upper management. This phase is still in progress with a few minor details on the agenda. Phase 3 consists of meeting between the club and town of Ajax council is tentatively scheduled for late April. This is where the final details get discussed. Phase 4 is starting to collect members and building the track. We are still hoping to open the track for sometime in the month of June. By the way, we have been able to get a very competitive insurance quote for the track. Many thanks to Mike SS for performing the negotiations with the agent. Having liability insurance for the track is very important to the club / town of Ajax and the future members of the club, and I am very happy to see this part of the puzzle is coming together for us as well. Looking forward to spending many hours of track fun with all people patiently awaiting for the opening date.

As we are getting closer to the spring season and counting the days when winter will be over, our track building plans are really coming together. We are currently in the process of raising enough funds to help pay for the material required to build this dream track. We have also received the first batch of our club T-shirts that are currently for sale at XtremeRC located at Ajax. Please Click Here for more information. We have also set a date to have our first annual bowling bash scheduled to take place on February 28th at Ajax Bowling Centre located at 172 Harwood Avenue South. Tickets are available at XtremeRC as well. Please Click Here for more info . We will keep everyone updated on our track building progress once more information becomes available. |

I just wanted to take the opportunity to announce the formation of our new club called “Durham Offroad RC Club” or D.O.R.C. in short. This is an exciting moment for all of us who have been involved in creating this club and getting registered as a non-profit organization. This all started when Mike aka Savage Skidoo approached the town of Ajax to see if they could provide a piece of land, so an offroad RC track could be built.
Mike along with a few members of this forum got together and had our first meeting with the town’s officials earlier this year. Marco aka Grafix was able to produce the stats from DurhamRC.com forum and prove RC interest exists within the region. Town of Ajax officials did hear us out during that meeting and presented us with a challenge in order to be taken more serious. The challenge was to form a non-profit organization in order to become oficially affiliated with the town. This would give us a much better chance of acquiring a piece of land within the town of Ajax. As an affiliate, we will also be given the opportunity to participate in some of the town events like Canada day and Pumpkinville.
We will provide everyone with more details on the club and our progress on fulfilling our goal of building a local RC track.
My special thanks goes to Mike Savage SS for kick starting this process, Marco for creating the DurhamRC.com forums and producing the stats, Sherri (Heather’s sister) to help us through the registration process and all other core members to chip in with their ideas and vision to produce the baseline for the club. |
